Different people, cultures, and traditions have their differing views about manhood. There are many stories, myths and legends about bravery and chivalry which is associated with manhood. I guess the impression of what true manhood is left to the individual to determine.
Is a real man supposed to be a super hero with certain gifts and powers or is a real man the one who is courteous towards the opposite sex and useful to society. Is real manhood associated with good looks or are looks less important when it comes to manhood?
What is more important when it comes to manhood? Gifts and talents or character and consistency, being married or being useful to your immediate environment? Is real manhood associated with fame or is it about having a good intellect? Is a real man the one who prides himself in his sexual prowess and how many women he has 'conquered' or is real manhood in our ability to abstain and endure till we meet with the right lady. Is a real man the one who has a relationship with God or can an atheist be considered a real man?
What makes a real man, is real manhood about our earning potential or is it about the values we hold dear to our hearts, is it about our priorities or is it about our achievements, is manhood about our character or is it about our sex appeal? Is a real man the one who has achieved more than his peers and is seen as an alpha male or is real manhood in our humility and meekness. Is the well dressed and groomed man the real man or are those less important when it comes to manhood. Should a real man be sensitive and considerate or is that the traits of the feminine gender. Should real men cook and help out in the kitchen, should they tidy the house and do the laundry or should that be left to their partners if they have any. Is manhood in our domineering disposition or is a real man the one who is cheerful and optimistic with an open heart?
Is the technologically savvy 'brother' who is 'moving' with the times the real man or is that less important when it comes to being masculine?
What is the place of men in this day and age?
We are not in ancient times when its believed real men are knights or princes of some sort who saves the damsel in distress. We don't have any fire emitting dragons to fight in our timeand we are not in an era of swords and shields when men would travel on distant voyages to conquer lands, expand our kingdom and bring home spoils of war. So what really is the place of the 21st century man? In this day and age women are as liberated and independent as men are. We have women who work in almost every field of human endeavour that men work in. Women have become bread winners just as men are, many are single parents who do a good job raising their children alone because of absent fathers. What separates a man from a woman in our time? Is a real man the macho looking body builder, the action heroes we watch on tv, is real manhood about politics, intellectualism or is it about being a 'pretty' boy, is it about being a sex symbol or pin up figure in the bedroom of females? What can make us real men, could it be our hair do? Keeping an afro or shoulder length hair. Are the 'lean mean killing machines' or cow boys in western movies our standard for manhood or is it the voo doo priest visting 'brother'. Is manhood in our ability to drink or smoke, or is it in our ability to keep our females entertained? Is manhood proportional to the kind of gifts we can present or is it about our education? Is the 21st century man supposed to be a mere sperm donor, a responsible father or are we a 'specie' that has lost it place? Boy do i need some
